چکیده
Around 5% of patients undergoing coronary angiography are diagnosed with a variant of aberrant coronary arteries. Malignant variants of this anomaly have been shown to result in 19% of sudden cardiac deaths in young athletes [1]. It is speculated that aberrant coronaries taking an anomalous course between the great arteries are squeezed between the pulmonary artery and the aorta during exercise or development of pulmonary hypertension. The most common anomaly diagnosed in adults is the ectopic right coronary artery from the left coronary sinus. A comparable anomaly with the circumflex artery from the right coronary sinus is among the most common variations and usually does not result in a dangerous entrapment of the coronary artery. However, during surgical interventions, these anomalous coronaries can result in significant complications. Especially, aortic valve opera-

Although classic valve-sparing root repair yields excellent results (survival at 10 years of 93.5%, freedom from structural valve deterioration at 10 years of 96.1% [1]), I agree with Siepe and colleagues [2] that extensive skeletonization of the aortic root might jeopardize an abnormal circumflex artery arising from the right coronary sinus and crossing the dorsal aspect of the annulus. I also...

متن کاملClinical Implications of Congenital Absence of Circumflex Coronary Artery
Introduction: Coronary artery anomalies are rare clinical entities reported in 0.6% to 5.6% of diagnostic coronary angiographies. Anomalous origins of coronary arteries from distal segments are rarely reported. Presented herein is a coronary anomaly in which the circumflex artery (CX) originated as a continuation of the posterolateral branch of the right coronary artery (RCA) w...
متن کاملAnomalous origin of the circumflex artery and patent foramen ovale: a rare cause of myocardial ischaemia after percutaneous closure of the defect.
A 35 year old man with a history of transient ischaemic attack and atrial septal aneurysm underwent percutaneous closure of a patent foramen ovale (PFO) with a transcatheter device. After the procedure the patient developed effort angina not present previously. Transoesophageal echocardiography confirmed the absence of residual shunt but showed an abnormal linear image running behind the aortic...
متن کاملA Rare Case of Giant Coronary Aneurysm in a 5- Year- Old Child
Coronary aneurysms are typically seen in association with Kawasaki disease and only in rare instances, they are reported to be congenital or idiopathic. Here we report a case of a five year old boy who was found to have an idiopathic right coronary artery aneurysm. He presented with complaints of recurrent respiratory tract infections. His examination and investigations did not reveal any of th...
